Has anyone here been to the Rio de Janeiro carnival

Hi there! Well Rio can be dangerous but generally it isn't that bad there are much more dangerous places in the world than Brazil or Rio. As long as you don't wonder off down any dark ally ways or quiet roads in the early hours of the morning you should be fine. stick to the busy areas and nothing will happen to you. If you are unlucky enough to get mugged just give them what you have. Brazilians are not spiteful even the muggers. Stay in the south of Brazil for you first trip. Get a bus from Rio to Paraty which is a wonderful old Portuguese town while you are there you can go Tridade which is Half hour away on a bus (wonderful beaches) or mambucaba which is half hour in the other direction (wonderful beaches) There are hundreds of islands and deserted beaches to discover. You'll have a good time in Paraty and you will fall in love with Brazil. Try to book your accommodation well in advance though because of it being during carnival. Have a wonderful time!
