Why are people so squeamish about fruitcake?

Why indeed. Fruitcakes contain no meat whatsoever. I love fruitcakes with cups of steaming hot tea. A sweet treat for me anytime of the year. Hey I actually look for them at Starbucks or any other cafeterias - seems like the perfect afternoon snack.
